In Passing is a primarily narrative feature film that follows the intense, co-dependent, and transformative five-year relationship between Elle, a queer painter from a wealthy but emotionally repressed background, and Rey, a non-binary chef from a working-class Mexican family. Interwoven with their story are documentary vignettes; interviews with real queer women and non-binary people in New York City reflecting on love, connection, and the afterlife of romantic relationships.
